The Importance of an Initial Consultation

In order for attorneys to provide the best possible service to you it is important to be honest and open about all aspects of your case.  Initial consultations serve many purposes.  One, consultations are a tool used to determine if the client is eligible to apply for the benefit they seek.  Second, they serve to provide the client with other options that may be available to them and why one course of action is preferable to another.  Lastly, consultations provide clients with the opportunity to meet with their potential attorney.  It is very important for clients and attorneys to have a working relationship.

Some items you may want to bring with your to your initial consultation:

  • ID
  • Passport and I-94 card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Divorce Decrees
  • Arrest records, criminal convictions and/or court dispositions
  • Previous paperwork filed with USCIS
  • Letters received from USCIS
